The Cloth Nappy Company is an online boutique store, but before our products make it online - they first need to pass the Owen and Harry test...

The Cloth Nappy Company

Like so many parents out there, we met over a cup of coffee and like our two little ones, have become good friends. We have chatted about everything from starting solids to starting school.

It was while out enjoying a walk and a talk that the prospect of running The Cloth Nappy Company became available, we jumped at the opportunity and are excited to be able to offer you the quality products you see available on our site today.

When contemplating going with cloth it is hard to decide what type of nappies to choose. Many shops offer a multitude of different nappies and nappy types and all seem to work on the assumption that you actually understand the difference between all of them. Through a process of trial and error, we have found nappies that we really like, discarding several leaky ones along the way.

It is with much pleasure that we are able to share with you this knowledge. The Cloth Nappy Company aims to demystify modern cloth nappies, making your selection easy and simple. Rather than stocking multitudes of different nappies, we only stock nappies that we know from personal experience do the job. All our nappies are high quality and beautiful.

We hope you have a wonderful shopping experience here at the Cloth Nappy Co, and if you have any questions, please just ask, we are more than happy to answer any of your questions.

Eva and Owen

I'm originally from the Netherlands, after my university studies I worked for the Dutch Ministry of finance where the closest thing I had to do with nappies was working out the GST to put on the disposable ones! I emigrated to NZ in 2002 to follow my future Husband (a kiwi) back to his beautiful country.

With the arrival of our little boy (Owen) in 2009, I spent a lot of time researching what was best for his bum! My priorities were comfort, practicality, environmental concerns and of course (being Dutch!), price. The cloth nappies which I purchased were all of the above and since then I have become passionate about them. They are no longer the old fashioned laundry intensive items that our parents remember. There are no more safety pins and folding. The current generation of cloth nappies are so quick and easy that it is hard in my mind to justify why you would want to continually spend on disposables.

Anyway, enough of the hard sales pitch! We hope that you find our site informative and helpful. We’re always open to new ideas and suggestions and realise that everyone is different, so what works for one mum might not always work for the others.......enjoy.

Claire and Harry

Prior to Harry’s birth I was working as a registered primary school teacher. Like many new mums I had never considered cloth nappies. I thought disposables would be less hassle than cloth - but soon discovered that whether or not you use cloth or disposables, you still have to deal with poo. Lots of poo.

To me, the only real difference is, that instead of putting a used nappy into landfill (for my darling Harry's great, great, great, grandchildren to deal with - that's right - 500 years to decompose) I put them into a soaker bucket in my laundry. Better for the environment, better for your pocket, and I think too, a lot better for the soul.

On the occasions where I have used disposables, such as when travelling away for a few days, I have been so alarmed by the volume of rubbish created. If I can reduce my carbon footprint this drastically as one person in one household, it encourages me to think I could be making even a little bit of difference to our planet by encouraging others to do the same.

Besides all of the environmental and economical factors for choosing cloth - there's one more reason I love using cloth. I might be a tad biased, but Harry's wee bum looks too cute in his cloth nappies! Good luck in your search for the perfect cloth nappy.
